How to Use Slings - Useful Instructional Video Links
Below you will find a list of instructional video links we've tried, tested and found helpful.
There are instructions for all the types of soft carrier so once you have decided which type of carrier you want, it is worth having a look through the relevant links to give you an idea of how it works.
If you are a beginner it is a good idea to practise with a doll or a teddy until you are confident enough to try with your baby.
Practise over soft surfaces and do have someone to act as a spotter when first trying out back carries. Sitting on a bed is the easiest and safest way to start learning a back carry.
A full–length mirror is invaluable when you are practising. It enables you to see exactly what you are doing and makes learning a lot easier.
If you are new to wraps a good place to start is learning how to do a Front Wrap Cross Carry (known as FWCC). You will need a 4.6m wrap for this unless you are size 16 or over, in which case you will need a 5.2m.
There is no rush to learn lots of carries, choose one and concentrate on mastering it before you experiment with others. This will give you the confidence to branch out and learn some more.
Don't be daunted by the long list of wrap carries, most people start with a couple and then like to experiment, whereas others are happy sticking to a handful. Just do what suits you and your baby.
If you are learning to carry a newborn baby, we recommend you read the "Correct Positioning of a Newborn" article by M'Liss Steltzer R.N. (The link will open a pdf file).
If you are interested in front carries with your baby facing outwards, please read why SlingGuide does not recommend them here.
